Haruya Ito is a writer who has moved away from Tokyo to the countryside. He consistently frustrates Yagisawa, his editor/lover with his existing writer’s block, and the fact that he is satisfied with his country life. One day though, after being advised by Yagisawa to become more motivated – Haruya took a walk along the beach nearby. He sees a young man undressing and this is how he meets Maki Hidaka, a troubled young man. Their relationship develops from that one meeting.
Maki is from a broken family, with an alcoholic mother, and an Obsessive compulsive disorder. Also because of neglect from his family, he does not like to be touched. This proves to be something that Haruya must deal with, until after Maki one times sees him having sex with Yagisawa, and then starts to feel something for this older man. On the other side of things, Haruya had started to get more inspired to write, and he makes Maki to be his muse. This proves to be tension later that would end the sexual relationship of Haruya and Yagisawa.
In my opinion, Two of Hearts was a slice of life book, it was quite slow paced and fairly emotional on the sweet side. I wasn’t really impressed by this story, but I found some amusement with the panels dealing with the character’s interaction with the stray cat, Moo. This is also a book that can be enjoyed on a languid afternoon.
